The State Psychiatric Inpatient Supported Housing initiative that began three years ago has recorded remarkable success, receiving a letter of commendation from the New York State Office of Mental Health. What began as a 30-unit community-based program with the Buffalo Psychiatric Center has grown into a 106-unit program with expansion to the Rochester Psychiatric Center. More than 70% of the individuals who have transitioned from the psychiatric centers to the community have remained there for over one year. Cost savings from this program exceed $12,000,000 annually.
